As the days wore on, security got less and less strict. Mike even got time to play with one of the hand scanners and discover that you could pass with your left hand turned upside-down (it seems that your two hands are usually a fair mirror image of each other).

I found this a bit strange as it answered one of the more bizarre questions I heard asked several times about the hand geometry system: "What if my right hand gets cut off before/during the Games?" I never could figure out why so many people were worried about losing a hand in an accident. The weird thing is that it wouldn't have mattered.
